In his book I Betraktarens ögon [In the Eyes of the Observer], Hans Caldaras tells the story of his life as a Rom in Sweden. He writes about spring in the north of Sweden in 1950, about his mother and about their always having to be on the move and the repeated police orders to leave (pp. 86–87).
The new edition of 2015 includes a section (pp. 372–73) in which Caldaras writes about his commitment to help poor Roma who are begging in the streets. This text was not contained in the first edition, published in 2002 (Stockholm: Prisma).
