The presentation focuses on the issue of the Hungarian Roma museum by problematising the process of Roma cultural institutionalism in Hungary. The museum is one of the most important, symbolical institutions of cultural representation. In my presentation I give examples of minority museums in the USA and Roma museums in Europe, and I summarise the proposals related to the establishment of a Roma museum in Hungary. I would like to find the answers for the questions: in the present situation why is there still no Roma museum in Hungary; would it be necessary to have one central institution – and if so, what mission/functions should it have?
