During the late 1970s and the 1980s, [Elena Lacková: Link_intern lit_BIO_lackova] began telling her life story to Milena Hübschmannová, her friend and the leading Romani studies scholar in the former Czechoslovakia, who recorded the story, translated it from Romani into Czech and edited it for publication.
The book was not published until 1997, when it appeared as an (auto)biographical book attributed to Lacková as author. Since then, it has been republished twice in Czech as well as in several other translations, including an English translation, which appeared in 2000.
