Przemek is a body of work aiming to widen the scope of Roma representation while challenging the narrative of the Roma community in Europe. The aim of these images is to establish an understanding between non-Roma who have little or no knowledge of their culture. Przemek and his family are Polish Roma who has been living in the UK for a number of years. Przemek is an advocate for Roma Support Group, as well as a professional Muay Thai boxer who represents the diversity and multitude of this culture. The images are presented as a juxtaposition displaying his life as a professional athlete alongside his family life, with his wife and daughter.
“The way to tackle this is more education, collaborations with Roma and non-Roma people through councilors and local government. There’s no co-operation between Roma and non-Roma and organisations could collaborate and work with Roma organisations and communities. For example 10 years of good work with the Roma community can be destroyed in an instant through negative media coverage.”– Przemek Kierpacz.
