This extract was taken from the still unpublished manuscript of the English version of Matéo Maximoff’s second book Le prix de la liberté. Thomas A. Acton worked on the translation of the novel between 1980 and 1983. It has, however, not been possible to publish The Price of Freedom yet – just as Maximoff‘s own translation into Romani, Putin t’aves skepime, which he finished in May 1982, still awaits publication.
Now extracts of these two versions are presented together with the French text on RomArchive for the first time.
The first edition of Le prix de la liberté was published in Paris in 1955, and the German translation Der Preis der Freiheit appeared in Zurich in the same year.
