My contact with the Roma is personal in character since I have been married to a Romani woman for over ten years. Together with her and our two sons we live among the members of the Roma of the Bergitka Roma group, in a small settlement in Czarna Góra on the border of Polish Spisz and Podhale. To make the art-piece ͞Wedding shoes͟ I used the pair of shoes that I wore on my wedding day, which bounded me physically and emotionally with the Roma. Originally, the shoes were made from brown leather but in the artistic process they were decorated with colourful, shiny ornaments. In this way, they acquired a stereotypical character but also gained symbolic traits because my relationship with the Roma is seen in the eyes of the non-Roma through the prism of clichés and mental shortcuts.
