The painting displays a portrait of an artist standing in front of a painting stand with the canvas, holding a painting brush in the arm. It’s a genre scene of self-portrait but at the same time the figure of the artist is anonymous. We can’t even recognize if it’s man or woman. The face and head of the artist are covered with white cloud.
The symbolic level of the work could be simply linked with the known proverb Head in clouds but the other meaning could be inability of self reflection. This work was a part of the painting cycle called A Cloud In Trousers refers to the eponymous poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky.
